The night before: Day zero update

We’re finally here, the night before the game jam. The night before I lock myself in a hotel room and try and knock out my very first video game; all while letting you follow along.

Somewhere in there is a video game. My view for the next 6 nights.

Tonight’s goal was just to get settled in, get set up, and to make sure I have my week’s tasks all in order ready for an early start tomorrow morning.

My task list for tomorrow is modest, yet lofty. I plan to publish with the following features:

  • Asset Loader
  • Import temporary tileset
  • State Machine
  • Intro Screen (place holder)
Task list for the week. Each day I’ll add, move and if necessary remove tasks as the week goes on.

I’m not sure how long everything will take; so I’ve been quite conservative with my plan. I’m hoping to get a lot more done. You may have noticed that there’s no tasks for the actual game content. My intent is to work on these items in “down” time, but is not the main purpose of this game jam. My intent is to build as much of the game engine done as I can to enable me and the kids to build level and other fun game assets over the next few weeks.
